Happy Baba Marta Day!

White and red, sanguine, zasmeni!

Grandma Martha was a Bulgarian holiday that we wish you health, happiness, and good luck, in unison with the resurgent spring power. No other nation in the world has such a custom. Traditional martenitsa is made of white and red thread. It is a symbol of peace and love, health and happiness. The white color is used for the purity and sincerity of relations between you and us, and the red color is used for the warmth of friendship and mutual love. Martenits have to protect the house from evil, and people from diseases. They portend a long life, health and strength.

One of the legends about the appearance of Martenitsat was the time when Khan Asparukh was on the right bank of the Danube River. His brother Bayan and his sister Khuba were waiting for him on the left bank and began looking for a ford to cross. Put the end of a white foot ball in the falcon to stop and show them the way to go. But the arrow penetrated the Accordion. Alain's blood filled its waters and stained the white umbilical cords, which was supposed to serve as a sign to Asparukh that his dear brother and sister were coming to him. After receiving the news from chakanata, Asparukh cut a string of white and red thread, called them into the hands of the soldiers, and repeated:

– The thread that connects us is never broken. To be healthy, to be cheerful, to be happy, so that we are BULGARIANS...

I present you a piece of martenichkite that my children ate at the bazaar at school and as a gift for their teachers.

Sunny and smiling, holiday!
